Where is Stores Receiving located?
Stores Receiving is located in the Angell Building, approximately one block east of
Harrison Road.
What are Receiving's business hours?
Stores Receiving is open from 7:30-11:45 a.m. and 12:30-3:45 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
What types of packages does Receiving accept?
Stores Receiving accepts the following authorized packages from campus departments:
- Air freight carriers
- Common carriers
- Parcel Post
- United Parcel Service
- Vendor-owned delivery vehicles
What types of packages does Receiving not accept?
The Receiving office does not accept shipments or packages for student dormitory rooms,
Kellogg Center guest rooms, or for organizations not affiliated with university academic
or business operations.
Can I have non-business related packages shipped to me?
Stores responsibility is for the receiving and redelivery of shipments relating to university
business only. Stores will not be responsible for non-business related shipments for
university employees.
What if I am not available at the time the package is delivered?
We will try and find a responsible individual or take it to the department office. There are
exceptions if the item is perishable:
- Perishables received prior to 3 p.m. will be delivered by special courier between 3 and 4 p.m. the same day.
- Any perishable received after 3 p.m. will be stored (after a telephone call has been placed to the addressee or a representative to determine the method of storage) and delivered the following workday.
What if I require a special delivery?
A special delivery service can be provided on an actual cost basis (minimum of one hour) if:
- Planned delivery service is not acceptable to the addressee.
- A delivery person and vehicle are available.
What if my packages are damaged?
Material received in a damaged condition must be reported immediately to the damage
and claims section of Stores. In order to be considered, concealed damage must be reported
to the freight carriers within 15 days of the date received by Michigan State University.
Nothing from the package can be removed until it is inspected or a determination made
for return or replacement. Damage valued at less than $25 cannot be processed.
Once a claim has been initiated, Stores will contact the department regarding responsibility
for payment of invoices or for handling of credits.
What if my shipment is sent freight collect?
Stores has accounts with all major shippers and will bill your departmental account
upon delivery.
What if my shipment is sent c.o.d.?
Receiving accepts c.o.d.s that cover shipping charges only. C.o.d.s which
include the product cost, must be shipped directly to the department. A check to cover the associated fees will be required by the carrier.
How do I find out if an item has been received?
You should contact Receiving at 355-1700, Extension 209 with your purchase order number
or release number. An available tracking number will expedite the process. In the
event your package has not yet arrived, you should contact Purchasing at 355-0357
and request expediting.
